DOCTORS, psychologists, chiropractors, and massage therapists treating Australian athletes at the Athens Olympics later this year will all have insurance coverage under a team liability policy.

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) media director Mike Tancred said yesterday that athletes unhappy with treatment during the Games could sue the AOC but not a member of the medical staff.

``There is a clause in the Team Agreement (which is signed by all athletes) where athletes cannot sue officials or members of the medical team," he said.

``If an athlete feels they received poor medical treatment during their time on the team in Athens, they can sue the AOC but not the doctor."

Mr Tancred said there was no suggestion that the Australian Olympic team would be travelling to Athens without proper medical back-up. He said 69 people would make up the Australian medical team in Athens, looking after 500 athletes.
